OP Cormeen Hub

Cormeen Community Hub

Cormeen Social & Regeneration Partnership

This project was a very satisfying and rewarding, it addressed a myriad of social and economic deficits within the rural area of Killylea in County Armagh, Northern Ireland.

Cormeen suffers from a chronic lack of economic investment due to years of population decline and the reducing number of social activities and services available.  This decline of services was due largely to underperforming infrastructure and community cohesion.  PNC undertook a public consultation to gauge the best way forward to develop the community and to gain a better understanding of the root causes off deprivation.  PNC recognised almost immediately that a recurring source of deprivation was the community’s ability to access clean and modern premises upon which to deliver services from.

In conclusion PNC, identified a rural venue that was central to the community that it would serve. They then as a community led approach engaged an architectural company to deliver a new building that would realise the full community needs and aspirations.

PNC then sought funding from a number of non recourse funders from Northern Ireland and the UK. Upon obtaining the said funding required, PNC then undertook a full procurement exercise and appointed a fully qualified construction company to deliver the necessary construction elements.  PNC obtained funding to the value of £375,000 pounds and project managed the job from conception to completion.  In addition to this PNC have delivered a range of upskilling services and training that will build the capacity of the local community, creating a sustainable future for the community of Cormeen.
